Reporting Requirements
Florida law regulates campaign financing for all candidates (including judicial candidates), committees and electioneering communications, affiliated party committees and political parties. It does not regulate campaign financing for candidates for federal office.
Chapter 106 of the Florida Statutes requires each campaign treasurer designated by a candidate or committee to file regular reports of all contributions received and all expenditures made by or on behalf of the candidate or political committee on or before the filing deadline. It is the campaign treasurer's responsibility to ensure that reports are complete and accurate and comply with all campaign finance laws and regulations.
Any candidate or political committee that fails to file a report by the designated due date may be assessed a fine by the filing officer for each late day. In the case of a candidate, such fines shall be paid only from personal funds of the candidate.
Where to File
Candidate financial reports are filed with the qualifying officer for the office. Political committee financial reports are filed with the agency or officer with whom the committee registered.
How to File
Candidates who file and qualify with the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections and committees registered in Sarasota County use this electronic campaign finance portal to log in and file reports.
Political committees filing reports with the Division of Elections are required to file by means of the Electronic Filing System (EFS).
